install new sound card driver
 
I am very new to linux system. Can any expert teach me how to install a new sound card driver. Please explain in more detail because I am naive.
By the way, I am using red het 8.0 with GNOME

generally, in Linux drivers are either compiled into
the kernel or as modules. for both methods you'll
need the Linux-kernel sources.

P.S.: Before downloading the kernel source (or installing
the RPM :}) and going through building your own kernel
check whether the card is supported at all by googling Linux-sites

What sound card is it?
Chances are that redhat 8 already has a driver, all you need to do is load it.

I have aureal sound card.
 
in the read me file, it told me to go to copy file "driver-directory", and use commend "su" and "make". where is the driver-directory???
