install network tools

I would like to install a linux and install some networking tools on it , thess tools are used to test our system health status , system monitoring etc , the propose of this linux is only for monitoring the network , system .

Just would like to know what linux distro is best for such propose ?

something that is stable and tested.

not sure, debian is famous for being stable, that though means that some libraries are or might be older.

i personally use openbsd for network monitoring.

what programs are you gonna use? that would help people to guide you.

I am not sure what extractly tools I will use at this momment , I will try and test to find a good tools later , what I am preparing is to find a good distro for such purpose .

if you want new versions of lib's and programs, distro would be Fedora 28.
if you want stabile system and don't care about (maybe) older software, distro would be Debian.
and if this network monitoring system is for company and not for home use distro would be Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Any distro will likely have the tools. Debian will likely be the best documented, or at least the more applicable in the case of generic documentation. Most of the difference between distros is the versioning of things. They all run pretty much the same software. I tend towards debian stable, because I can start minimal and updates are (for the most part) ONLY security ones if you go with stable. Which having been stuck on dialup for a decade longer than I should have been, is a nice option.

i personally run OpenBSD 6.3 as a network bridge.

GUI progs are:

etherape
ettercap
wireshark

non GUI progs are:
perl v5.24.3 -> many perl scripts.
