Install movie player for Fedora 8 -- how?

Is there an EASY way to install a decent movie player in Fedora Core 8?

I've got Fedora 8 installed, and I downloaded mplayer (livna repositories, then "yum install mplayer," and now I've got an executable that seems to work. I can clip a URL and paste it to the command line, and a little window pops up and plays. Cool.

Now I want to connect it to Firefox. So I download the mplayer-plugin source, and it tells me I need XFree86-devel and XFree-86 libs. I try to find them, what I find can't resolve dependencies. I download XFree-common and try again. Eventually I get to a page explaining that what I'm doing is replacing my entire X-windows installation with a different version. You gotta be kidding. No, I'm not going to do that.

So I read the INSTALL instructions. It instructs me to download the entire mozilla source, in CVS format, or the Gecko SDK, and tells me which command line switches to use once I've extracted their entire schtick from CVS. What do I know about CVS? Again, you gotta be kidding.

So I read the Totem movie player stuff that got installed with Gnome. It's just a front-end, I discover after searching around. I need to install G-streamer, for which the most recent rpm is for Fedora Core 5, and I have to download source and compile.

Is there a way to install a damn movie player in Linux that does NOT require me to figure out where all my install libraries are, and where to point makefile command line switches, and how to extract source from CVS, and all those other things developers do every day but the rest of us don't really want to f**k around with?

Frankly -- if it's this freaking hard, then playing movies isn't supported in Linux. I can write a helluva good backup script in the bash shell, and I've got LAMP running just fine (modified my own httpd.conf and my own Wordpress theme), but I'm not a developer, and I don't want to be one, and all the approaches I've seen so far are just, plain, more work than I want to do.

Surely, there's an easier way?
