so you downloaded the cd's 1,2 and 3?
well, you'll have to change your BIOS so it says that you can boot from cd
then you'll have to put in the bootcd (normally cd 1)
if everything went oke, you should see a mandrake installer starting up, which is very intuitive and easy to follow
be shure to know what kind of hardware is in your pc and how to divide your HD in partitions

maybe you should give us some more information as well:
are you installing linux on a clean machine, do you want to dual boot it alongside windows or do you want to replace windows with linux?

EDIT: if any of the terms I'm using aren't clear, then just post them and I'll try and explain

linux can run on virtually any machine!
but if you want to make sure you can check the sites of mandrake(now called mandriva) and suse if they support your hardware (soundcard,videocard,lancard,...)
a toshiba G20, so if google is correct you have a pentium processor, right? then you should of downloadeded the i386 installation cds/dvds under the form of ***name_of_cd***.iso . did you get the correct ones?

after downloading these .iso images, you have to burn them on a cd/dvd.
now,you don't just copy the iso-file on a cd/dvd like a mp3, you have to creat an image. most cd/dvd-creaerprograms have this special option. find it and write your installation disks

when your disks are ready, you have to get into your bios
I'm not really familiar with laptops, but on a desktop you have to press the "del"-button or one of the "F"-keys during startup.
normally, your computer tells you how to acces the bios during startup, so look out for that. else look in the manual of you pc

now, if you got into the BIOS, you'll have to change one of the options:
you got to tell your pc to boot from your cd/dvd-reader instead of your harddisk
I'll reboot and check for the actual names later

if you got this far, you can actually start installing linux.
put in the boot cd (normally first cd) and instead of booting your previous OS, you should see a linux-installer booting. after that, you just have to follow the options of the installer (mandrake has an easy-to-use installer, so that should make it easier)

only the partioning part may cause a problem, just have a search on this forum or on the web on how to do this(before you start to install of course ) .if you still experience any problems just post them here!
