install lilo after the fact
I currently have redhat 9 and windows xp on the same harddrive. I installed linux without a boot loader, I use a floppy to boot. I would like to add lilo(to boot both windows and linux). How do I install it now. I have no /etc/lilo.conf or /etc/lilo.conf.anaconda file. I have read my lilo man pages, they did not make a lot of sense.
If I would have chose lilo when I first installed redhat, wouldn't it have written my /etc/lilo.conf for me? just point me in the right direction and I would be more than happy. |
I just copied a version of lilo.conf off a web sight I found, filling in the right info. then was able to run the command #lilo
It is booting both OS's nice. Since the addition of lilo, I am getting this procces failing at shutdown Stopping NFS statd FAILED |
hello
my lilo is croupt and i just stop at LI i think urs work can help me, please tell me urs detail work practice from downloading lilo to configuring or installation and final steps. thanks , that would be great if u post urs help at my following post http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=87268 http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...613#post457613 |
Shanenin, it looks like a mount of an NFS (network file system) failed. Do you have any? Post your /etc/fstab and /etc/lilo.conf files so we can have a look.
Mobassir, if you have the CD your distro came with then it will probably also act as a rescue disc. I don't know which distro yo use but I'm sure thay all have appropriate boot options to help you out. Usually it involves booting off the CD and pressing one of the F keys to get a list of options. You'll then have to rerun lilo (and possibly edit your /etc/lilo.conf file) without errors and that should fix your problem. |
thank you ver much
