install KDE but GNOME starts (may soon lose mind)
Had a new install working with KDE. Used Xconfigurator to try and change the resolution. When I started x again I get Gnome. Can't figure out how to get back to KDE.
I reinstall 6.1 with the 'install KDE workstation' option, startx still gives me GNOME. Right. I use partition magic to completely delete all partitions on my hard drive. I do a custom install and am careful to install KDE but not GNOME. After install, GNOME starts. Am I losing my mind? What am I doing wrong? |
Edit (or create if it doesn't exist) the ~/.xinitrc file and add the following line:
exec startkde If the file already exists, you'll probably need to comment out (a hash "#" at the beginning of the line) any other lines that start with "exec". Exit out of X and then run "startx" again. If you boot directly into a GUI (kdm, gdm) login, you may need to make additional changes, but I'm not sure what they are. Speck |
during your install, did you check mark to start KDE as default or not.. later versions of REdhat you can change your default in the /etc/system/desktop
but not sure what you did if you did a custom and selected not to install GNOME... |
try this command
switchdesk kde then try startx |
