install gtk 2 on suse 8.0, is it possible?

hi there,

could somebody tell me if it's possible to install gtk 2 on suse 8.0? I have tried, but cannot find the appropriate rpm's, I keep getting messages about other packages that are required. it just gets too complicated!

so if somebody's done it before, please give me a step-by-step explanation and if you can, tell me where you found the right rpms! many thanks in advance!

ash,

welcome to dependency hell. i wanted gtk2, so i upgraded to suse 8.2 rather than mess with it. you might look into ximian red carpet service. i've had some luck upgrading an 8.0 system to later versions of libraries etc. but even they get confused sometimes unless you just let them upgrade 'all' which creates dependencie problems within the distro. it costs a little - i think $29 or so - at ximian.com. also, they tend to drop support of older distros.

it can be done by just resloving all the dependencies - there's no magic formula only determination. ximian aside, i would try to do it from suse 8.2 rpms, rather than from say the gtk web site. suse is strange about where it puts things sometimes. lol.
