please read this for details of installing from source... http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ticle&artid=15

don't see what divx has to do with this though...

wine "sucks" because it's not something you should be using out of choice. depends what you want to use it for though. use cedga for games, crossover office for selected office apps, and wine for everything else.

I had divx player once on FreeBSD with linux binary compat. it only played divx files duh and not all avi's. So it wasn't much use to me unless I rented a divx dvd online. So guess that says there is divx codecs and a shabby player for Linux without the need to run wine and if you search around you'll find it. Try divx's site.

i am a if it comes to linux.

i had mandrake 10.1 untill it asked me for a vigor11 code. then i deleted mandrake and installed red hat.

the problem with me with linux is installing and running applications.

If i click on a app, it takes ages to boot.

anyone can help me with these problems? i would be very happy if my experience in linux would grow and it would be better to use it then massivesoft no XP

divx and any other stanadard video type can be played natively on linux with minimal effort.
