insmod reports app.o init module: no such device

I am trying to setup dsl on a memory stick. I get the following boot messages:
insmod: /lib/modules..etc..kernel/app.o: init module: no such device.

also;

insmod: /lib/modules..etc..kernel/apm.o: insmod char-major-10-134 failed

Can someone please tell me what these messages mean? or point me to a reading file, howto or ???

I have several other problems and am certainly not a linux oldie.

you can always search in google with 'keyword howto' where keyword can be dsl or kernel or anything you want.

insmod reports app.o init module: no such device

Thanks, I have spent many hours on google and message (user) boards. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I just need someone to tell me what the terms; app.o: init module and apm.o: insmod char-major-10-134 mean.
