Insanely slow video

Both FlightGear and TuxRacer are incredibly slow on my system. I'm 99% it's something with my video setup because other resource intensive programs run just fine. The programs just seem to have a very slow refresh rate. Here's my setup:

Mandrake 9.2
Dell Inspiron 4000
Intel 700MHz
512MB of RAM
Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x video card
and I think I have the most recent Mesa libs.

Thanks

open a console an run
glxgears

With my old on board video, I got 75 fps. With my nvidia, with the drivers, I get ~8000 frames/sec. Tuxracer now runs 1600x1200, 24 bit color at > 300 frames per second. I didn't even know that tux flapped his wings as the countdown starts. See if there is a linux driver for your video card at the manufacturer's site.

One place that helped me was http://dri.sourceforge.net/. I was getting about 2 frames per second on Tux Racer until I looked at their Documentation section.
