inittab

Mandrake 10.

I was editing my inittab to update my nVidia drivers. I wanted to shutdown X on startup.

Noticed that the //comment section said do not change your init to 0 halt!

Curiosity killed the cat...I knew what it was going to do, but wanted to see it work....or not work i guess.

Well, now my Mandrake box boots up and halts. Like it said it would....
-------------------------------------------------------------------

How could I gain access to change the init to back to 5?

On another drive, i have Suse 9.1 loaded and it boots up fine.

some people just don't believe what they read............
you don't set the runlevel to "0" or "6"

you will need to boot up with a "live CD" like knoppix or CD #2 of the Slackware set so you can edit /etc/inittab
.............

Boot up SuSE or use the 1st Mandrake Install CD and boot to rescue mode. Mount the Mandrake root partition and edit the inittab file.

What was weird is, the Mandrake root partition is mounted in SuSE. But I can't see any directories...
