Info about Linux Device Driver

Hi all,
I have plans of writing a device driver for an "internal " modem in linux.I want to know whether it is possible ?..
Has linux got any drawback for internal modem support..?

Can any one guide me of how i can go about with building of driver.?

Rubini wrote Linux Device Drivers (O Reilly) a while ago, covering kernels 2.0 and 2.1. An update was written recently to cover more modern kernels. See the O Reilly site.
