Independent application or firefox addon that keeps its own bookmarks in an html file

There have been privacy issues with firefox bookmarks in past versions. Such as sites being able to see your history or bookmarks. And who knows what issues are yet undiscovered. Not trusting firefox one could put bookmarks manually in a text file, as html, and use a live CD in a VM so firefox is forced to forget what is visited.

Does any firefox addon exist that does this? Crucial: it must not use firefox bookmarks. To save a bookmark, you type control-D and the bookmark goes to the html file. To visit a bookmarked site, you open the html file and click from there.

i recently searched for an app like this - there was one, from 2001 or so, couldn't get it to work.
other than that, none.

i wanted it for simple, browser independent syncing.

i don't quite understand your privacy concerns - can you elaborate on that? how exactly is a site "able to see your history or bookmarks"? i'm really interested.

...

thinking about it, and looking at a firefox-generated bookmarks.html, it can't be that hard to get the functionality... just applying some css to that bookmarks.html will make it much more usable.
but still not editable - that would be the crucial point i guess.

maybe some existing app can be used as an html bookmarks manager.
or maybe one could use markdown instead of html... just brainstorming.

Don't remember details, sorry. I think it was a bug, not intentional. But there are other issues that are intentional, if you believe Snowden who says many US software and hardware vendors have been secretly forced to add backdoors etc.
