Inconsistent saving of logins and passwords in FF2
 

I'm using Firefox2 (actually, mostly Iceweasel in Debian, but Firefox on my Windows box at work exhibits the same behavior), the very first time I log in to a site, it will ask if I want to save the password. I usually click "not this time" the first time, to make sure I typed it in correctly, then from there, it's a crap shoot. Sometimes it'll ask me again, sometimes not. I'm positive I'm NOT touching "Never for this site". Also, if I change the password, there's no way to save the new password. If I delete the site from the list of sites saved, it won't ask me to save it either.

I suspect there's a box somewhere I need to check to fix this that I'm just not seeing. This is quite annoying. Help!

I hate to break it to you, but Firefox (Iceweasel) 2.0 is full of bugs. The latest Debian package from Sid (2.0.0.2+dfsg-2) opens two tabs when you click a link from another application such as Thunderbird (Icedove). Version 2.0.0.2+dsfg-1 is worse, it open's firefox's homepage instead of your own. The version before that lost all bookmarks because it changed the configuration dir from ~/.mozilla/firefox to ~/.mozilla/iceweasel.

Perhaps it is a good idea (if you insist on using Firefox) to revert back to version 1.5, it's much more stable.

Search the web and you'll find all sorts of complaints about FF 2.0.

Perhaps waiting a few days or weeks will have it fixed. In the meantime, I am using Konqueror. It works quite reliably, and can use the same plugins.

If you're a gnome user, then perhaps Epiphany is better. I wouldn't know becuase I have never used it.

I would love to use Konqueror for everything, but unfortunately it* can't handle more than 1 password per site. As in using the WebUser interface to multiple e-mail accts. at my ISP. Opera, on the other hand, does this flawlessly.

Iceweasel in Sidux has been fixed. According to the developers, the patch came from Debian, but it may or may not have hit yet. I haven't bothered upgrading my Debian because I am sticking with Sidux.

As for your issue with Konqueror, I never encountered that, but then again I don't visit websites that need more than one login.

I had the exact same problem with 1.5 too.

Maybe there's some kind of plug-in? Hmm...

I believe that when you say "not at this time" it considers that to mean never. You can change that by going to Edit -> Preferences -> Securtiy.

If you change things there, and it still doesn't work, then I suggest you take it up with the mozilla developers.
