Implementing a HA Samba fileserver on Linux with SSI

Hi all,

does anybody have experience of implementing a low-cost high-availability Samba fileserver (serving windows NT clients) on Linux with SSI?
I have two dell servers each with internal IDE drives (5GB + 80GB) that I would like to set up in this way. I want to have a journaled filesystem that supports ACLs (ext3, xfs, ReiserFS) and I want to have a consistent means of managing the data stores (I think I need something like EVMS for this)

SSI looks like a suitable means of implementing a HA clustered server but I'm not sure if it would be suitable. It's such a vast topic in itself that I'd be very grateful if somebody who's "been there" would let me know if it's appropriate or to steer clear of it. If it is appropriate, I would be grateful for any tips on how to get started with it.

Kind regards and thanks,

Michael

You need to visit the High Availability Linux website and subscribe yourself to the mailing list .

It's a low-volume, high-expertise list that you can post exactly this kind of question to, and get good solid answers from the pros of linux HA.

You might find everything you need to know just from reading their site, though.

Hi Medievalist,

yes, I think you're probably right. I'll give it a go.

Thanks,

Michael
