.img files under ubuntu
Hi,
I use Ubuntu 7.04, and i just downloaded an application in the form of .img file and i don't know what to do with it or which application is used for handling .img files under ubuntu .
Also it's a windows app, but i'm sure it can be installed with wine once it's extracted, or whatever that needs to be done with the .img .
Any help is apprichiated

Looks like a disk or CD image.
mount -o loop filename.img /mnt
where /mnt is an empty directory you can mount the file system in.

I hadn't thought of that. Now that you mention it I think you are correct. I hope that the original poster tries this and lets us know what happens.

When I tried this, I was told I need to specify the filesystem type. I tried iso9660 (although I knew this is incorrect), but I got an error. I'm honestly not sure which filesystem type the .img file is. I created this .img file from an audio CD, by the way.

An audio disc does not have a file system, so it cannot be mounted. But there are several audio CD players that accept their option "CD/DVD drive" to point to a file, just like xine or gmplayer do.
Anyway, you can burn the image on a CD with your favourite burning software (K3B, Brasero, X-CD-Roast, etc).

Burning is a waste. Under Windows you can mount this virtual and proceed from there or convert it to .iso
I hope such an option exist on Linux just as well.

You should install fuse, acetone iso etc
