imap users...
how do i add users/mailboxes in uw-imap? thanks
You just add users to the system in the usual way AFAIK - adduser. I'm not sure if the UW IMAP server support support virtual users (users that exist in the mail system but not on the host operating system).

lol nice sig....then theoretically i shouldve been able to log in as root...but i couldnt
Root isn't allowed to do lots of things by default like ftp into a server and I'd be very surprised if you could connect to the IMAP server as root either. It would have the potential to give you big security problems. Have you tried as a normal user?

yup that too...still no dice..im using squirrel mail, and i kno its connecting to the imap server because i get a denial error instead of a not found error, which i was getting before
Is there anything in the server logs to suggest what happening? What IMAP server are you using?
cheers Jamie... |
uw-imap, i wouldnt kno where to acces the logs, i just get an incorrect password message
Your logs are typically in /var/log have a look to see if they give you any hints. My experience of UW IMAP is thats its just worked. The only thing I can think of is that the IMAP server is trying to use a secure connection and your client isn't. Which mail client are you using?

hmmm i distinctly remeber installing OpenSSL in order for imap to work...im usuing the squirell mail client
I think that for SquirellMail to use IMAP you need to have PHP built with OpenSSL support too, when I last build PHP I can remember playing about with this. Try connecting with something like pine (or even Outlook!) and see what they report.

hmm i never built php, it came pre built with my distro in apache (redhat 7.2), ill try pine
ok i tried pine, and i just realized that sendmail isnt working, how do you restart a server thru ssh, like i need it to turn back on again...not halt or suspend...like a windows type restart
You need to restart sendmail yeah? What distro are you using?
cheers Jamie... |
no no i want to restart the entire OS...RH 7.2
Its' "reboot"...have you been to the UW site and read the docs? Their FAQ answers a lot of questions.
