imap script needed: download attachments

Dear All,

I'd be grateful for any pointers to scripts (preferably perl, but python will do) that can download attachments from all emails in specified imap folders. Even better if the script can subsequently remove the attachment from the message on the imap server, or at least forward a copy of the message's text body to another email address and delete the original.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Edit2: It just occurred to me that some email clients may have this capability. That would be an equally good solution.

imaplib in python has been suggested as a solution - any alternatives?
