IMAP problem

I am trying to install IMAP under my redhat 7.1,but failed to login to " telnet localhost 143". I installed imap-2000-9.i386.rpm and then I typed telnet localhost 143 ,which show this :

[root@zeal godwin]# telnet localhost 143
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4REV1 STARTTLS LOGIN-REFERRALS AUTH=LOGIN] localhost IMAP4rev1 2000.283rh at Thu, 27 Dec 2001 18:45:02 +0530 (IST)

but acutally when i installed under redhat6.2 and typed telnet localhost 143 it throwed a login prompt.

I am really confused whether IMAP is working or not please suggest me the right way.
