imap client

i can't configure netscape mail account on mozilla messenger
incoming mail server is imap.mail.netcenter.com
outgoing don't know, i put smtp.mail.netcenter.com

i clik on get msgs and is says "resolving host imap.mail.netcenter.com" after wich msg box arrives with "Failed to connect to server imap.mail.netcenter.com"

maybe my-name@netscape.net is working only on netscape mail client? but isn't mozilla based on netscape?

thanx

There doesn't seem to be a dns entry for that address. Are you sure that is the right address?

Nechos 09-28-2003 09:09 AM

i'm using it with netscape mail under win98se...

david_ross 09-28-2003 09:17 AM

Are you sure it is:
imap.mail.netcenter.com

I certainly can't pickup a DNS entry for it.

Nechos 09-28-2003 09:29 AM

all i know that in my netscape mail preferences incoming mimap mail server is set to imap.mail.netcenter.com
(i didn't have to write it on my own in netscape mail, netscape mail wizard has got option: netscape webmail)

david_ross 09-28-2003 09:43 AM

I would double check the address with the netscape support section - It just doesn't seem valid.

Nechos 09-28-2003 09:52 AM

i've already tried to find "the right" adress at netscape.com, but there's no word on using mail with a client...
thanx anyway

yes, the addy is correct. I have tried to do exactly this to no avail.

david_ross 09-28-2003 12:55 PM

How are you both connecting to the net - do you have some sort of netscape dialup or dns settings? I can assure you that there seems to be no dns entry for that address:
Code:

broadband, I use the mail on my home *doze box and my work *doze box. No additional config, the only curious part is that it has only ever worked as part of the netscape browser.

Nechos 09-28-2003 01:13 PM

i'm on adsl...
it's quite strange because i'm 100% sure that's what's written in my account settings (in win netscape mail client) after "incoming server adress:" and i have no problems checking the mail...

david_ross 09-28-2003 01:15 PM

Perhaps there is somethign built into netscape that lets you access it. Perhaps you could try initiating an imap connection on windwos while running:
netstat -n 1

This should show all conenctions going in and out of your computer. You should be able to copy the text to a text editor and search for connections going to an imap port. If you are unsure then post the output.

i didn't quite understand - what is netstat? where do i run it? telnet?!? we're talkin about windows, right?

david_ross 09-28-2003 01:30 PM

netstat is a network statisitical program. Just run it from a cmd or commnad prompt. Nothing to do with telnet. Yes run it in windows.

Nechos 09-28-2003 02:12 PM

i did that but the list is always different!how do i know what's important?
other thing: i don't feel quite comfortable with putting some "local adresses" on forum (if what i think they are is right)
could you tell what is it that i should be looking for?
