image pixel information

I am looking for a program that can output statistics on the pixels that it is made of.

For example, and image that is 100X100 and completely black, for example would output:

foo1.png --- 100X100
Color statistics:
#000000 - 10000

If the image was 100X100 and half black and half white:

foo2.png --- 100X100
Color statistics:
#000000 - 5000
#FFFFFF - 5000

And so on. Do you know what I mean?

I am looking for a readout that shows the number of pixels for all colors in an image. Thanks for reading and hopefully someone here knows what I'm talking about and can give me some helpful suggestions.

Some programs can generate histograms of images. This might be what you're looking for, altough such histograms
are usually not outputted as text, but rather as a graph.

Any advanced image processing software will probably have a histogram function in there somewhere.

ImageMagick has a histogram function, for instance. It may not be in the format that you're looking for, but it's a start.

Thanks for the reply timmeke.

Yeah, I'm aware of the histogram dialog included with the_gimp.

While that is pretty much exactly the info I want, unfortunately it is not helpful in that form since I am dealing with thousands of fairly simple random images.

I want that histogram info in text form and with a batch mode so I can run it thousands of times in a fairly short period of time.

EDIT: Hold on, there is a batch function for GIMP that deals with histogram data, im just looking it up now and ill post back if it's useful or not.

The GIMP proved unsuitable to do what I wanted.

Instead I found a great program called ImageJ:

http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/

Basically it is a scientific program used to analyze images. It can count particles, pixels, you name it. The macro interface was extremely straight forward and I was able to process 2000+ images in less than a minute.

From there it was a simple matter of exporting the data to a text file and importing it into openoffice.org.

Very sweet little program!
