Image conversor bmp & png to jpeg

Hi there!
I'm looking for an image converter (preferencially command line driven) to convert large numbers of images to jpg.
I know you can do it through GIMP wich is good when you have one or two images to convert but when you have 1K+ images its a waste of time doing it that way...
I've googled for such app and searched also here and can't find anything suitable..
What i want i a prog to convert from bmp to jpg and from png to jpeg
Something like
prog -o jpeg images/*

What your looking for is imagemagick, You might already have it installed try

whereis convert

Then look through the man pages. The homepage is here.
