Iffy Microsoft USB keyboard

Right, shamefully, I am using Microsoft's USB keyboard. The problem is that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. I have a IBM PS2 keyboard attactched as well for when the USB stops its functioning. Is there anything I can do without buying new hardware?
