Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I have seen all the awesome games for Windows, like Half-life and Warcraft III, and, now a Linux user, I don't have those incredible time-killers anymore. Now, on seeing so many awesome games for Windows, I'm thinking that it's definetly not fair that the Windows users get the goods and all we Linux guys get is the dedicated servers. So I have decided on a solution: boycott.
The companys don't give us Linux clients, they don't get our precious bandwidth that we've given to them for the servers of those games. It's that simple.
So, if you run a Linux game server, I implore you, post on this forum and let the gaming industry know: they can't leave us out.
I agree that it would be cool if we could play our favorite games (Battlfield1942, MOA, Half-life,Unreal series ETC..) on Linux but boycotting is not gonna work, they would probably not even care. Weve got to let them know bye showing them there is a large market of gamers that run linux and if all the cool windows games were available for linux I would do away with Windows altogether cuz thats the only reason i have a windows box.

check out www.linuxgames.com you can run most games through dosemu or wine with a few tweaks here and there....
I do agree that is stinks....perhaps a developer could make millions off a standard console to run windows games. All I ask is a free copy when someone does it.

yeah, i know about winex (and wine, but that messed up lilo), and since i subscribed, i regarded it a waste of $30. none of the games ive tried work. none. but what can i expect? so thats why i made this forum. i know that boycotting is an unstable plan, but try anything once. see my quote from albert einstein in my signature. lets just give it a shot. it just might work.
How many times I have to tell you to post more constructive posts and to not offend others on any particular questions/threads they start. If you have nothing constructive to say, then don't post anything then.
Im a proud linuxgamer and captain of the Swedish Unreal Tournament Capture The Flag National Team. There are games that run just as smooth or even smoother native on Linux than on windoze. Even the windoze versions sometimes runs better on winex than on windoze it self. beat that!
Too bad the SGL lib has its flaws....like.. where is Copy/Paste??? Such a simple thing and it isnt there. Thats a shame.

Actually, i think it might work. linux game servers make up alot of online game servers. without us, alot of servers for q3 and rtcw and half-life and stuff wouldnt exist. so, if we boycott, then there goes quite a bit of the servers (im not suggesting boycotting idsoftware, by the way. they rock, giving us native ports of almost all the quake series, and rtcw.).

unfortunently, the petition site needs a specific target to direct the petition to, so, what games do you wanna see ported to linux? right now ive selected either valve (half-life) or blizzard (starcraft & warcraft).
