Idiot Here -> VoIP dummy questions

Dear Treasured Linux Users,

I don't know what VoIP is or how it works. I know that my friend in Nepal can call me from a computer for 5 cents a minute when it costs $3 a minute from a regular phone.

Without having to write my own software, can I just download something and use it to call anywhere without paying for it?

Sincerely,
Luke

P.S. And where do I find it?

do you mean voice over ip , well if thats the fact what it is it is a new feature to the world of networking its going to take over long distance and local calls, what you are doing is using your network to make calls over sees and locally it is rather inexpensive and will cost you a pretty penny . hope this helps
