IDL graphs made on xterm not working when VM client has been shut awhile

Hi All

I am having an odd problem. I am runnign Ubuntu 9.04 on a Virtual Machine.

I have some software running that produces some IDL graphs in an xterm as part of the process, it works when called from the command line and it works when called from the crontab IF the VM screen is open or has been opened recently. However the jobs that are running overnight when no one is watching come back with black images rather than the graphs!

The user manual states that the software has to be run in an xterm so that the graphs are produced.

Code:
#!/bin/bash

# This wrapper file runs the daily report for the current day from the crontab

source /home/ideasadmin/.profile
export DISPLAY=:0.0
/usr/bin/xterm -display :0.0 -e ./Daily_report.pl DAILY ALL TODAY
I altered the energy saving settings so the display is never switched off since it is a virtual machine but I still don't get the output I need.

As you can see from above, the whole process is running in an xterm, this seems to be working 24/7, but the IDL graphs pop up in separate windows and they're the problem.

Is there any way I can ensure the display settings are correct for any xterm? I am assuming that my problem lies in my xterm settings.

Cheers
Emma

I eventually found the setting above were correct but that I needed to make sure the computer screen never powered off or went to screen saver! All works now!
