Ideas on new graphical interface
I have been thinking about some ideas for a new interface. Nowadays, most desktop environments are based on the same old concept of interface. So I'd like to start an open-source project with the aim to try to do things different.
It'd be a lot of work for me alone, this is unknown area for me, so if anyone is interested in the idea, and knows programming in C, you are welcomed to join.
basic ideas:
- "data" is the focus of the interface, instead of "application" management. It abandons the traditional idea of what an application is.
- Data can be text, graphics, audio, video... , and each data type is managed by a 'content handler'.
- No windows, and no popups. Instead, the screen could be split in non-overlaping areas.
- Content can be interlinked (currently, this is not done with files), similar to linked
pages in internet.
- Encourage only one import/export format, aiming to remove the nightmare of so many file formats for the same thing (e.g. doc, odt, abw...), it's inefficient.
The ultimate purpose is to encourage people to investigate better, different ways of doing things. If you'd like to join, let me know.
