ide cdwriter?

Is there some problem with burning a CD with an ide cd writer?

I tried using cdwrite, but it complains about a read only file system. The man page refers to scsi an awful lot, but not to ide much. I tried xcdroast, but could only get it to recognize my writer as a reader. Yet I can certainly use the drive from windows to burn CDs.

Reading CDs is no problem it reads them just fine. Could it be some interference from my other CD drive, which is a read-only drive installed as a slave on the same ide chain?

Do I need a particular driver? The currently installed driver appears to be named uniform, v2.36. The cdrom info file under /proc shows both drives without any complaints. Also, there doesn't seem to be any complaints in the log files from the driver about the drive.

Thanks

thorpe

You don't need a particular drive, what you need is scsi emmulation for your ide drive, there is a general howto on the net, and also posts here
http://seismo.ethz.ch/linux/xcdroast.html

this is particular for Suse7.3

read it and follow the instructions.
