Iconv troubles

Hi!

I'm having severe troubles doing the following:
All I want to do is converting text-files from iso8859-15 to utf-8.

Now, I found a lot of information on the net and also in some magazines, but it seems as I'm doing something wrong, as it simply doesn't work for me. I used the following syntax:

iconv --from-code=iso8859-15 --to-code=UTF-8 file.txt > file_utf8.txt

and when looking into the file I see thing like '€' or 'Œ' where there shoulb be a '' and a ''.

Now, the only clue I have is the 'file' utility. My text files created in utf-8 already, are detected as 'UTF-8 Unicode text', while the mentioned iso-file is detected as 'ISO-8859 English text' and the converted version from it as 'UTF-8 Unicode English text'. So I probably have to tell iconv, that it's not English, but German. But no idea how to do this...

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

OK, solved!
sorry my mistake. I did this in konsole and had the coding still set to iso-8859-15. That's why it showed that glyphs.
Setting it to utf-8 did the trick.
