Iceweasel green screen html5 video

I'm writing this question because of this later thread I opened about freezes on my macbook air.

I've been told to install a new kernel, and after that, I've had no freezes :)

However, sometimes on iceweasel, I'm watching a video and the system freezes for 2 seconds, no more than that (but the mouse works smoothly). When this happens, the video freezes and when I reload it, it's all green (but the audio continues). All the other videos in other pages, are all green. Sometimes, the youtube video will load forever but never start playing. I have chromium and videos work fine while Iceweasel is green. Also, there's this always-on bug in that the video plays all glitched when I replay it. Can't fix that.

Please see the video: https://goo.gl/photos/tVp263b87W6qxnoo6

Can somebody help me to debug this? How does Iceweasel renders videos?

After installing that. Go here.

Then hit use the default player button.
They should start playing for you. They do for me.

Edit; or wait for someone to post about editing about:config >media and maybe you will get lucky with html5 player. I just go with what works quickly for me.

So, since you have flash, you had the same problem as me? Also, I'd like to not use flash since is vulnerable, that's why I'm using HTML5. I'd like to know if it's a common problem so I feel less 'guilty' of not fixing it here. Will IceWeasel fix it? Can't get any answers from the community.

Mine was no sound in html5. I got tired of researching a fix. And I am pretty good at maintaining my own gear. You do what you want. All I did was post what is working for me.

On my older gear that has no sse2 capabilities in the cpu. I use smtube to watch youtube outside of my browser. Hammering a P3 cpu while watching youtube is just not good for a IBM T23 Laptop.

...

I was having this issue with no sound but HTML5 video was working fine for me on YouTube using Iceweasel, Debian "Jessie"/KDE. Many of the suggested methods of trying to fix this that I found weren't related to my specific issue, or were "workarounds" (such as using Flash, which I'd rather not). I knew that it should work as it has worked in VMs and other installs.

I eventually ended up uninstalling and reinstalling Iceweasel. All that did was make it so I now can't see the video either, with it being solid green, but with black, white, and gray pixel artifacts in a 4×4 square in the top left corners of HTML5 YouTube videos. https://i.imgur.com/luktDLv.png

In trying to fix this issue with the video... wait for it... I ended up fixing the issue with the audio I was having, but now the video still doesn't work!

Though they might not all be necessary, making sure these packages were installed fixed the audio:

gstreamer1.0-alsa
gstreamer1.0-libav
gstreamer1.0-nice
gstreamer1.0-packagekit
gstreamer1.0-plugins-base
gstreamer1.0-plugins-good
gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio
gstreamer1.0-x

Now if I could just get the video working again... Let me know if you find a solution, OP or anyone else for that matter. Though I'm not entirely sure if we're having the same issue or just the same symptom at this point, I'll report back if I get it working too.

Thanks!

OK, got it working. :) https://i.imgur.com/HOcNq9d.png

Went into about:config in the browser, searched for mediasource, changed media.mediasource.enabled and media.mediasource.webm.enabled to true, then went to https://www.youtube.com/html5 to check on the settings. Everything except "MSE & H.264" was checked. I clicked on "Request the HTML5 player" button, closed Iceweasel, then restarted my laptop.

You probably don't need to restart your computer... I'm just letting you know the full process I took.

I happened upon this thread in the first place by googling around for a solution. Hopefully this helps someone else having the same audio and/or video issues with Iceweasel.

Cheers.
