Question i2c-2.7.0 included in 2.4.20 build??

i read that i2c-2.7.0 was included in kernels coming after 2.4.19, but when attempting to make lm_sensors, i2c was not found. i am running rh9 with kernel 2.4.20-6. was this information incorrect??

i was thinking that since i installed from a publisher's distribution, perhaps it was not included...

well... there is SOMETHING in kernel about i2c but look like it is not the "full" thing, so you have to install it to make lm_sensors to works.
Have fun, it is somehow strange to install
