I wish to uninstall ubuntu
 

Ubuntu has been great, I loved it. However, i stopped using it and now it's just eating up space. It seems dangerous though, is there any risk involved? Also, if you could link to a good tutorial or walk me through the process that would be very nice

Assuming that you have Ubuntu on its own partition, there is no risk in leaving it there.

With any partition manager, you can simply delete the partition.

You can install any other version of Linux on the same partition and Ubuntu will automatically be overwritten. Go to http://distrowatch.com for some good choices.

You can use Windows partition editor and format your ubuntu partition to NTFS or FAT and use that partition for storing data.

So I can just delete the partition and only windows will be left?

Also, if i dont want to overwrite anything can i get the 17 GB back?

What boot loader are you using, Grub? Is it installed to your MBR? If it is you should be fine, you can still boot Windows from there. Someone tell me if I am wrong, but if it is installed on the first sector of the hard disk instead of the MBR then can't the OP lose his ability to boot Windows? If this happens you can boot up to the Windows Recovery console and use the command fixmbr.

If you are currently using Grub to boot Ubuntu and windows and you delete the Ubuntu partition you will no longer be able to boot anything. Most of the Grub files are on the Ubuntu partition. You should be able to repair the mbr if you have done this with your windows disk. It depends which windows you have, xp, vista/win 7? I understand that you need a full installation disk rather than a Recovery disk but I don't use windows so that is just reporting what I have read from others.

The method to recover varies with the version of windows so, what do you have, xp vista-win 7? What is the current stats? Are you able to boot windows? Did you delete Ubuntu partition? My understanding is that windows doesn't recognize Linux partitions and usually shows them as unallocated space, not sure about this?

Im using vista, also i can boot everything fine, i just took ubuntu off the list and that is all.

If you have the windows disk from which you could recover windows' boot loader, you can delete the linux partition, and then use that disk in case of any troubles with booting windows.

I take it you are using WUBI? That's the only way it can eat up space. Try installing Ubuntu on its own partition and see if that does it.

Anyway, for WUBI to be uninstalled, just click the "Uninstall.exe" application in the 'C:\Ubuntu' directory. Then, try booting the Ubuntu CD and running the installer, selecting "Install operating systems side by side" when you get to the partitioning step. Then, Ubuntu will automatically partition your HDD to make room for itself WITHOUT disrupting other operating systems (like Windows). You can then have a good time running Ubuntu at full speed.

Alright, so i found the uninstaller. So i should uninstall it and then install it again? And i dont have an ubuntu CD

If you have an internet connection, you can do the download the iso and burn it to a cd. Total cost: 1 cd.

I was gonna get the CD, but the download was 17 hours so i decided not to. But I'm just wondering why i have to install it again?

Who says you have to? If you don't need it, then don't.
