I play doom3 in linux but no sound.
When I run the doom 3 in linux ,that all ok but no sound,I receive the warning:
WARNING: mmap 32768 bytes on device /dev/dsp failed: Input/output error

WARNING: sound subsystem disabled
My soundcard use alsa driver and in xmms and mplayer ,it worked fine.

I'm pretty sure doom3 will have to use oss in order to use that mmap feature, so the sound card needs to be oss capable

Minimum Specs
GNU/Linux system,
Pentium III, 1Ghz
256Mb RAM
Kernel 2.4, 2.6 is recommended
glibc 2.2 and up

3D card:
NV10 or R200 minimum hardware
OpenGL hardware acceleration

sound card + OSS ( with mmap support )

Alsa and 5.1 sound
The sound engine currently requires the OSS API, and Alsa is not supported. Only stereo is supported. Alsa support and 5.1 sound may be available in future releases.
Try installing oss?
