I Need Some Help Please!!!

Hi, I am very new to Linux and the way it works, I started it because I try to get away from Windows. I am running Red Hat 9.0 and kde i believe I know its not gnome anyways I am going to need alot of help. First question is... I have a drive that is a windows hard drive that is partitioned as a NTFS is it possible to have that somehow open up and be able to use the files while I am running linux. For example i have mp3s on the HD and I want to listen to them how can i be able to open them up and play them?

Sorry if this question is redundant or dum.

Thanks

kernal

I'll assume your kernel doesn't have support, which is experimental by the way, for NTFS.

Recomplie your kernel and choose to support NTFS. There are a billion guides on recompiling the kernel on LQ and everywhere else. Just search "recompile kernel"

once I recompile the kernal then what do I do? Either through GUI (which I would like to prefer) or commands in which I have little experience in.

Thanks for the info

i don't mean to be discouraging, but honestly, the best feature of this site is the "Search" tab.

here is a series of step-by-step instructions to mount your windows partition. here is a link to the discussion thread. i'd read over both of those, then search for ntfs, and see if you can get a handle on things. if you still have questions, post up.
