I need help with a DVD burner

I recently installed Mandriva 2008 on my pc and so far i'm really happy with it. But i need a help with my DVD burner. For some reason it's not picking mine up. It doesn't even show up when i open storage media. It has power I just can't use it. If anyone could help me with this I would really apreciate it.

hello? pickledorf? any luck with that DVD burner? if you give me the info from those two text files (/etc/fstab & /var/log/dmesg or /var/log/boot) i can most likely give you an answer about your DVD burner...

There is a cd/dvd burning program called k3b that you can use to burn files to a dvd or cd. K3b should come with whatever distro you have. If you have a data dvd inserted, then it has a filesystem and can be mounted. An audio CD doesn't have a filesystem. You can't simply open an empty dvd burner device. There is no filesystem. You may need to download the package from a 3rd party repo to get CD audio, mp3 & dvd video functionality for k3b. http://plf.zarb.org/
