i need help sending mail

When i send mail from my machine by using

# mail -s "subject" you@your.domain

Is that sendmail? Or is that something else?

The main problem i have is my IP address is shown in the headers in the mail message on the recipient's end.

It may show something similar to this:

Quote:

Return-Path: <violator@violator.net>
Received: from my.ip.address.here (EHLO www.violator.net) (my.ip.address.here) by mta145.mail.scd.yahoo.com with SMTP; 15 Jun 2003 05:09:32 -0700 (PDT)
Received: from violator.net (IDENT:1001@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.violator.net (8.12.8/8.12.8) with ESMTP id h5FC9KOm004004 for <you@your.domain>; Sun, 15 Jun 2003 07:09:21 -0500
Received: (from violator@localhost) by violator.net (8.12.8/8.12.8/Submit) id h5FC9KUc004003 for you@your.domain; Sun, 15 Jun 2003 07:09:20 -0500
From: "violator" <violator@violator.net>
How do i change the IP address listed in the headers to be fake? I do not want them to show up as MINE, but as a spoofed or ficticious address.

I looked in the /etc/mail/sendmail.cf but did not see anything that was easily identified as being something to change the IP address.

I need some serious assistance here.

Thanks

I doubt you'll find a lot of support on this board for tool and teqhniques used primarily for spamming.

Damn, I'm glad you said that Mc9. A quick (possibly wrong) hint Violator: Masquerading...

Cool

so because this is something that a spammer would want to do, you think no one will help me? I thought this problem was part of 'allow you to control your computer, not let the computer control you' motto. I will look into the masquerading. But i still need to know if this is actually Sendmail, or if it is another protocol.

I'd be willing to help if you can give me at least 2 Positive/good things you could accomplish by doing that, otherwise, just hold out for someone who doesn't care.

Cool
