I followed all the steps and made an ISO for my Linux kernel but it is not letting me start up my comp with it! The steps as explained that I took are as follows : I downloaded the kernel in iso format, then saved it to cd (80 min/700mb), and then changed my start order to boot from cd-r first! what have I done wrong?
Can you describe what you are trying to do? You say you are following steps, or instructions. Can you give a list of those steps, or the website where those steps are? It'd be a great help if you are more descriptive about what you are trying to do.
As to your ISO file, in case you didn't know, these files are not supposed to be burned as files to a CD. Instead, a cd burning program (like Nero, or K3B) is supposed to load an ISO file like yours in order to burn the appropriate files onto a CD. Just look for an option in your favorite CD burning program that looks similar to "burn ISO image" or such.

PS
You could get better specialized help if you're also more descriptive in your thread title.
Sorry about the horribly written tittle... But I am really frustrated with this Live CD thing. I wanted to try out Linux before I downloaded it so decided to try the live cd thing I read about on their page. I do admit I am a novice at computers but hope to one day get into programming (thusly wanted to try my hand at Linux) but I need to learn a bit more before then. I have searched for the different downloads for my laptop to try the Linux Live CD on and found out that Mepis is the one best suited for it. Now when I download this file I get it as an iso (cd image I think it is referred to as being) and I have burned it to a disk. In the instructions from Linux I am supposed to just change my boot order to boot from disk and it is supposedly going to start up from the Live CD. But it just goes onto my Windows XP after reading the disk for a few seconds. What do I do and what have I done incorrectly?!
I have changed the title of the thread. If you have changed the boot order of your devices, but the live cd does not load, it could be a sign that you did not burn the cd correctly. Many people make the mistake of burning the iso files as data discs instead of cd images.
ok thanks so much I will reply on how it works in the morning I need to go to bed cause it's almost 2am here and I got to work tomorrow at 8am! Thanks so much ^_^
