if you have alsa then just use arecord to record pcm and then pipe that to lame, i dont know how good arecord is though.

I use mp3record. It works great. Don't know about the scheduling part but it does a great job of recording to mp3 from any imput source, ie. line in, mic ect.

what is alsa?

there are two different types of soundcard drivers in linux, oss and alsa, oss is becoming obselete, i would imagine red hat 9 has alsa but never having used it i dont know. if it has alsa then you'll have a program called arecord this records wave files from alsa driven soundcards all you need to do is pipe the output from arecord (a pcm wavefile) into lame which will encode it to mp3.

however ddpicard seems to know a program that does it all in one, this might be easier.

ok... i got the programs working, even the ones that i downloaded several weeks ago. it seems i can't broadcast with shoutcast from line in and also record at the same time.

is there any way around this? or are there any stream rippers for linux? searched with google and couldn't find any.

and i have oss drivers, if i install alsa will it work?? i mean broadcasting and recording at the same time?
