i installed a MINIMAL installation of RH8, i logged as root, but no startx command...
i installed a MINIMAL installation of RH8, i logged as root, but no startx command...
what should i do now to install everything needed to run KDE or GNOME, is there a text based software installer in RH8?
help.

Try the install CD again
Try to use the install CD again (i.e. boot from the install CD, then hopefully there is a menu for installing software). Could this help? (Sorry, just guessing).
Or at least, probably you can just reinstall the Linux distro, if it's fresh. This won't hurt (esp if you have no data/custom settings).

yes, reinstalling the whole rh8 wont hurt, im just curious 
if there is a tool that can handle rpms via txt mode

reboot from ur RH8 CD and upgrade ur system..
in upgrade select KDE and Gnome options..
ur X will start..
RH minimal install does not have X-Server in it...
