By the way, the usual method of installing software on SuSE is through YaST. building from source should be used only if there is not suitable package in the YaST repository. Don't delete the build directory - you will need it if you want to uninstall.
I've not used airsnort - don't know how it works. Probably you just type "airsnort" at the command line. Read the documentation for the program to find out more.
I'm a noob too, but if the app isn't in your path you can run it with the explicit path, or if you are in the path containing the app type ./(appname) Also it must be set with executable permissions for the user running it.
