i dont understand your metal birds and sendmail

first let me start by saying I'm a total newbie, and these config files linux uses baffle the hell out of me. I've learned alot from linuxquestions. here's my newest problem.

I dont know which of the 3 config files i need to play with to get sendmail to send through a relay smtp server. if you could post exactly what i need to put where. i would be eternally grateful!!

lets pretend my smtp server that i want to relay to is

mail.mail.com

and my username is

me

and my password is

pass

ps. where are the rankings listed? how much do i have to post before my ranking changes?

Use postfix, you will find it very very easy compared to sendmail. I was having trouble using sendmail (never got it working) but with postfix, within 5 minutes i was up and sending email.

I know this wasn't your initial question, but just thought I'd give you my two cents.
