I Don't Understand Update Policy-Please Explain

Mint 18 Cinnamon 3.0

My Update Manager reports my system is up to date but I know for a fact that an update for one of my apps (musescore) is available for download from its site.

Musescore was installed from the repository (not by direct download) so am I correct in thinking that the delay is because the ubuntu repository has not yet been updated? Or is there some other explanation?

Can I force the update? Thanks.

Hi...

There can be a number of reasons. Take a look here for a more in-depth explanation.

Not from Ubuntu's repositories but if there is a .deb package or PPA from the maker of Musescore, you could install that way, assuming you have the needed dependencies. Take a look here.

Regards...

@ardvark71: Thanks for the links and references. Very informative and helpful. It seems to come down to how close to the "wild side" does one care to live. I have a lot to learn about Linux before venturing off into rolling release land, although Manjaro does seem like a relative newcomer might survive there.

Musescore 2.0.3 successfully installed from ppa and appears to be running fine.
