Slooooooowwwwww

Ok, I'm back, I have everything running, but my connection seems to be real slooooowwwww. I know, I know...."Well, duh-You're using dial up.", but it seems to be slower at loading pages, than the old Compaq laptop I have with Pentium II processor (266 mhz), and Windows 98 OS. - Is there a "easy" way to fix it...please remember I am very new to Linux (Red Hat 9), and have little experience with, or knowledge of computers in general, (other than surfing, emailing, word processing.) Any advice would be appreciated.
I don't know what information will be helpful in determining problem, so I'lll tell you everything I "know" about my pc, and what has been recently installed *:

AMD Athalon 1700+ (1.4 G)
Maxtor 60 GB Hard Drive*
I/O Magic R-W CD Drive*
Red Hat 9 - (Mozilla Web Browser)*
Zoom Serial Port External Modem*

hi
change ur browser
firefox and opera are some good ones
also u can try out closing some services from the system setings--->servers---aservice swection
close for ex.
NFS related services(they surely are heavy)
pcmcia,(req. for laptops)
rhnsd

also if u want to take some adventure go kernel compiling(it does take some good time)

Masand,

Kernel compiling seems a little ambitious, for me.

Maybe, I'll try changing the browser.

Thanks.

Speed

Masand,

Thank you, I turned off some of the services you suggested, and it has improved my "speed" immensely.
