I cannot close applictions properly

Whenever I close a fullscreen application, e.g. games they turn the whole screen black except for the top left corner where the game is displayed, whe nI close the application/game then the monitor flickers then turns off.
The laptop is still running though, as the hard drive activity light is still flashing and I can hear the laptop running,
Pc: Dell inspiron 1100, origianal hardware
OS: OpenSUSE 11-Gnome.

If this isnt fixed I will HAVE to revert to the worst OS on the planet, XP.

Seems there is a problem with the graphic card driver. There is plenty of bleeding edge s/w in OpenSuse. Also post it in the opensuse forum.

Which driver module are you using for your card?

It may be a Gnome (gdm) bug too. Install KDE or try the live cd.

You can switch over to Mandriva or Kubuntu if .....

It may be related to /etc/xorg.conf . Post the graphics part of the file as well.
