I Can't use Linux Firefox or Opera to browse the web-sites I need to, under SUSE 10.0

With regards to Firefox, I'm stuck with V. 1.0.8-02, for AMD64. I can't find a repository directory for YOU to get a Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4-0.1 x86_64 version installed in SUSE 10.0. I've been to http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_Ya...e_Repositories
and checked around the links listed. No luck. Also I've been to http://packman.links2linux.org/.
I really don't know whether it's even going to help if I do get this new Firefox version. I hate having to dual boot to Windows and use Internet Explorer, because it will browse certain websites that both Opera (V. 8.52, pathetically 32-bit) and Firefox will not (in particular, the University of Michigan Careers job board; go ahead, try and look at the jobs there with either of these SUSE Linux browsers).

if you can't look at the job boards with FF in Windows, the issue probably won't go away in Linux. Not sure what you can do besides contacting the webmasters and telling them to make the site a bit more compliant with standards.

If only the e-mail contacts provided at the "Careers at the U" web-site would answer at all, let alone immediately as you have. I don't plan to dink around with installing a new Firefox under Windows XP; I'm just tired of giving in to B.G.

I do not understand why so many Linux users feel bound to their distros. I've been getting firefox straight from Mozilla since about 1.0.2.

I tried installing 64 bit versions of openSuSE 10 and Mandriva 2006 on my AMD 64. I eventually gave up on SuSE - there were just too many problems. I ended up installing the 32 bit Mandriva 2006 because I thought there'd be fewer problems. (There weren't.)

My understanding from my contact with the 64 bit versions (on which I installed firefox and Adobe Reader) and from posts I've seen here and there is that the 64 bit distros have libraries which enable them to run 32 bit software.

Do you have a link that you cannot open? I'll try it.

A good place to look for rpms is http://rpm.pbone.net/. Check there and see if it has an updated 64-bit version of Firefox.

Have you tried telling Opera to spoof IE's browser ID?

If using kde set konqueror to spoof IE if that helps...

noranthn, go to http://www.umich.edu/~jobs/, and from there, you are welcome to try to look at job postings as a visitor. If you're using either of the Linux browsers I do, you can't. My Opera browser is set to spoof the user agent as MS IE 6 by default (answering Dan04). I'm stuck with the dual-boot crutch.

Firefox looked as though it was loading from "Show all jobs" but it was unable to do so.

I tried to get the above page with Konqueror and got this message:

I was dumb, or just plain frustrated out of trying Konqueror. If I had seen that message, would have just given up, then. Sorry.
When I browse the jobs I might even chance to get at U. of M., they definitely don't seem to be offering enough salary to warrant paying for a MS Windows licence.
