I can't Login


Ican't login into ubuntu. When i installed 5 minutes ago i put leyth as username and hello as password. Now its not working what can i do?

The only thing i did was update my software and restart the namea nd password worked earlier.

Normally, I'd say log in as root and use the passwd command. But on Ubuntu, I don't believe you can log in a root.
See if you can enter the boot parameter "init=/bin/bash". This may get you into init level 1 as root. Then use the "passwd" command to change the password. ( Note: use a better password)

I'm assuming the by "not working" you mean that the system rejected your password. You really should provide more information.

i'm fairly new to linux as a whole, i can't seem to get to the place where i type init=/bin/bash

can you help me out please?

it doesn't say incorrect password or anything it just takes me straight back to the login screen

make sure you are typing your user/pass case sensitive.

you can try

Code:
sudo passwd <user_name>
change the password then try logging in again

nothing it doesnt give me and error or anything, takes me to terminal in full screen for a split second and takes me back to the login screen

Are you at the graphical login screen. It could be a problem with your X windows setup.

Try going to one of the virtual terminals [CTRL]-[ALT]-[F2] for example, and see if you can log in as a user in a non xwindows session.

seems to be some misconfiguration, he says it takes him to the terminal for split sec, so login is sucessfull, but something happens which logs him out,
