I can't log in anymore!

Whenever I try to login I get the following error:

-bin/bash: /home/myusername/.bash_profile: Permission Denied

Unable to create ~/.gnome directory
Unable to create ~/.gnome2 directory

If I try to log into fluxbox, I get a similar error with .fluxbox. I tried changing the file permissions on .bash_profile to 777 on a whim with no luck.

PLEASE HELP ME!

Thanks,

What often causes this problem is that / or /home/ is out of disk space. Even if it doesn't seem that way, some (usually 5%) is reserved for root's use only.
Also, check that the user and group are the same as the home directories'.

yeah, the problem was that I was compiling from source and didn't realize that during the "make" phase the files had ballooned to 2 GB. Since it was such a small dirve I was completley out of space. Unfortunately, deleting stuff didn't seem to get me able to log in again. But I learned my lesson for the future. I guess this is a non-issue for anyone deploying Linux on a modern machine, just be careful on legacy boxes.
