I can't install firefox 5.0

I installed firefox5.0. But I'm try to open it, I saw this error message

/opt/firefox/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

How can I resolve this problem?

By installing what Firefox needs...

Check with your distro's repo or (if possible) install via the console...

Hello,

What distro are you using? Most likely, you need to install libgtk2.0-0 and the dev package; For ubuntu, run the following:
Code:
apt-get install libgtk2.0-0 libgtk2-dev
Now I THINK that is it, but I don't run ubuntu, and you never specified what distro you use, so just let us know, and we can assist you in getting the correct files installed in order to run Firefox 5.

Cheers,

Josh

Welcome to LQ.

Firefox 5.0.1 is a 32bits application.

When you install to a 64bits OS, libgtk* will be reported as "No such file .."

The 32bits "gtk2" package is required. Which Linux OS are you using ? ?

You don't need dev packages to run a binary.

I know you shouldn't, yet it doesn't hurt to install them, especially if a header file needs to be used during compilation.

we still do not know what OS the OP is installing on
if it is something like
suse 9
RHEL4
rhel3
fedora 2
or RH9

some Universities require Fedora 2 or 6 for some classes
if this is the case then ............

so until we know what os supitha25352 is using and if it is 32 or 64 bit
there is no answer
gtk2 is a standard on almost all distros and libgtk-x11-2.0 should be installed
