I can't install fedora 5 using GUI

Hello All

I downloaded fedora 5 and i can't install it uisng the GUI options, my screen goes nuts, it displays all different kinds of colors, and i have to reboot.

Im pretty sure i can install it using the text version or command line, but i would like to be able to use GUI. You know and i want to use KDE or Gnome

Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Im using an HP pavillion w5320la

Simple but age-old problem really. Your distro has picked the wrong driver for you video or monitor.

The standard method to overcome it is press ctrl+alt+backspace to drop back into the terminal mode. There you can re-configure the Xorg or simply edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

FC5 is actually communicating with you but the video/monitor can't deliver the information.

You might want to look up the graphics card support for linux. If the graphical install doesn't work then try the command line but install Xorg/gnome/kde. Do startx and troubleshoot the graphics problems from there.

or instead of going through a whole fedora install only to find out it doesn't work, use a live disk gnoppix/knoppix boot w/ that and try to troubleshoot the graphics problems there.

The xorg can be reconfigured by editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I would look at the Section "Device" and try to amend the Driver line with

Driver "radeon"

or

Driver "vesa"

or

Driver "ati"

The available drivers are in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers directory.
