You should be able to install over the old version. Simply run the installer for whatever distro (Please include in your profile, it makes life easier for answering questions), and perform a fresh install over the same partitions that you used before.

You should also be able to format the partitions and resize them from the installer, if that is what you want.

I hope this helps

You don't need partition magic. All you need to do is to install the new Linux version in your current partitions but make sure that you enable your installer to format them. The end result is a clean install.

I am assuming you are trying to upgrade your distro. What distro is it ?

You shouldn't need partition magic, since the installer for most popular distros will do the partitioning for you.

What rpm error is it giving?

When you say your CDs are correct, I assume that you downloaded the ISOs from the internet. What site? Did you MD5sum the downloaded ISOs before burning them to CD? Did the MD5sum turn out correctly? Have you tried burning the ISOs onto new CDs?
